Art and About

Art and About | Friday 18 September to Sunday 11 October 2015
Sydney becomes a canvas for creativity and storytelling during the month-long Art and About festival-style program with temporary pieces of art and exhibitions taking over laneways, streets and parks across the city. Now in its 14th year, Art and About is expected to draw tens of thousands of visitors to the city of Sydney.

The program is jam-packed this year with things popping up in all kinds of unusual spaces across the city. We’ve picked out just a few of the highlights to help you plan out your Art and About experience when you’re visiting Sydney.

The Terrace: Free Entry
For just nine nights, 18 – 27 September, Sydney Town Hall Terrace transforms into a live music venue celebrating Sydney’s music scene. From special acoustic sets to indie-pop and Latin jazz, this year’s line-up is especially diverse. Entry is free each night, however we recommend heading in a little bit earlier and it is first in best dressed when it comes to snagging the best spot.

Australian Life: Free Entry
Hyde Park North becomes a public outdoor gallery showcasing twenty-two photographs that portray Australia through the eyes of its people. The idea of this thought-provoking exhibition is to get us to reflect on how we see ourselves. One of the favourite free exhibitions at Art and About we recommend you add this one to the list and check out the finalists in the Australian Life competition. If last year’s competition is anything to go by then this is one not to be missed.

Near Kin Kin: Free Entry
The towering 21 metre high bamboo forest returns to the forecourt at Customs House Square again in 2015. This awe-inspiring piece is created by Cave Urban using organic materials from a farm in Queensland, just outside of Kin Kin, hence the name. Our tip is to take the time to view the sculpture from both the outside and the inside for two different perspectives.
