Christmas in Sydney

Christmas in Sydney
Starting from late November the city of Sydney turns into a magical wonderland with a five-week long celebration of all things Christmas. From giant interactive Christmas trees to the largest free carolling concert in Australia, there’s no better place to be this festive season.

Carols in the Domain
Australia’s largest free Christmas concert, Woolworths Carols in the Domain, is back for its 33rd year. This year the likes of Johnny Ruffo, Adam Brand and Samantha Jade will be performing your favourite Christmas carols all night long. The Domain does get very full early on so we recommend you make a day of it. Pack your picnic blanket and chairs along with plenty of food and head down in the afternoon to grab a prime position in front of the stage.  It’s just a few minutes’ walk down the road from the hotel, allowing you to avoid the hassle of parking in the city.  It is a free event, however special VIP tickets will be released to the public. For more information, head over to their website.

Martin Place Christmas Concert & Tree Lighting
A giant interactive Christmas tree will become an eye-catching feature in Martin Place from November through to Christmas Day. The branches will be all lit up with messages tweeted and texted in from all around Sydney. The tree will be lit by the Lord Mayor and Santa on Thursday 26 November 2015 starting from 6pm. Following the official lighting of the tree, a free children’s concert will take place with performances from the cast of The Sound of Music, Anthony Callea, Sam Moran and more. The interactive tree will stay lit up with messages of Christmas spirit right up until the big day, meaning you can go and view it whenever you like or send in your own message.

Christmas Projections
The exterior of some of Sydney’s most historic buildings will come to life with Christmas themed projections every evening throughout November and December. The Old Sydney GPO, Sydney Town Hall, 341 and 343 George Street, along with Challis House in Martin Place will light up from 8:30pm every evening. After an evening of Christmas shopping in Pitt Street Mall or Westfield Sydney, head down to Martin Place or George Street and watch these enchanting projections light up.

Christmas on the Green
Hyde Park is the place to be on Thursday 26th November if you’re looking for a way to keep the kids entertained. Hosted by Saturday Disney, this free children’s concert kicks off at 6pm and features plenty of arts and crafts, entertainment, food, desserts and there’s even a puppy play-pen thanks to Guide Dogs NSW/ACT.

Christmas at the Queen Victoria Building (QVB)
Picture a giant Christmas tree covered in 82,000 crystals and 65,150 lights sparkling bright in the historic Queen Victoria Building. Located under the dome of the QVB, the 24 metre tall Swarovski Christmas tree took a whopping 102 people 44 hours over 3 nights to complete.
